An abridged history of motion pictures: In 1888 George Eastman registered the made up word “Kodak” as a trademark. In 1894 Jean Aimé “Acme” Le Roy presented the first film screening in New York City. In 1895 Auguste and Louis Lumière filmed workers leaving their factory in Lyon. In 1903 Thomas Alva Edison orchestrated and captured on film the electrocution of an elephant in Coney Island. In 2011 Anja Dornieden and Juan David González Monroy filmed dwarfs dancing on a stage at an amusement park in China. In 2012 Eastman Kodak filed for bankruptcy.

Lychgate

Lychgate reimagines the selection of The Chosen One in the iconic ballet The Rite of Spring, depicting a community of women performing a ritual, not to sacrifice, but to honor the unknown and empower one member to envision it. This 360º dance film blurs the boundaries between terrestrial and ethereal planes, sweeping the viewer up in the fervor of bodies moving in ceremony and synchronicity.

Narrated by award-winning actor and dancer David Gulpilil, Carriberrie guides audiences across a stunning array of iconic Australian locations and performances, from the traditional to contemporary. From ceremonial creation dances in the heart of the Outback, to honey gathering songs in the rain-forest, bush-punk band The Lonely Boys performing in Alice Springs and a finale featuring Ban-garra Dance Theatre by Sydney Harbour, Carriberrie brings together art, technology and Indigenous performance in inspired new ways.

A brief history of the emergence and artistic innovations of tango in 19th-century Argentina and Europe. Before We Go

Brussels, La Monnaie Opera House. Three people near the end of their lives meet with choreographers, actors and musicians. They take part in a unique experience which involves music, dance and silence. Their journey becomes a tribute to the fragility of the human condition, between reality and representation, tragedy of the body and freedom of the spirit. Together they question their own relationship with death.
