Itsuki Tachibana is a student of Seiga Academy, a co-ed boarding high school with excellent reputation, located in a suburb outside the city center. On a day of second semester, he was summoned by Rina Izumi, the most esteemed and praised chairperson, to the student council room, without knowing what awaits him.
It’s been ten years since Azuma Kazuki has been in Japan, and upon his arrival he is taken prisoner by a group of armed men. Azuma is saved by his childhood friend, Kogane Asabuki, thanks to a living weapon she wields on her right hand, known as a Bubuki. Learning about these weapons, Azuma becomes a Bubuki wielder himself and sets out on a journey.
Set in a part of Tokyo that has descended into a quagmire, the story follows Unit 8 of the 5th Special Public Security Section's 3rd Mobile Assault Division — popularly called "The Eighth" — who don powered armor "Willware" exoskeletons to counter the rise in crime. Assistant inspector Asami Kazari is assigned to The Eighth with the task of assessing the unit's status and reporting it to her superiors. But her true goal is to rehabilitate this sloppy, haphazard, justice-less group.
Based on Fujio Akatsuka's subversive family comedy, the series follows naive 10-year-old Bakabon and his folks: Papa, the patriarch and idiot supreme, Mama, Bakabon's darling mother and voice of reason, and Hajime, the newly-born baby boy who, due to being in the womb for an extended period, gained super-intelligence and an extensive bevy of worldly knowledge. Much of the comedy revolves around the idiotic natures of Bakabon and his Papa, and the people who have to put up with it.
If the first Bakabon series wasn't the "original", then what could Ganso Tensai Bakabon hope to achieve? How about wilder and more dangerous stories, stranger and crazier new characters, and a Papa who's more idiotic than ever? The anime's story centers on Akari (a quiet high schooler who has inherited a love of travel from her older sister, who took care of her in place of often absent parents) and Nagi (Akari's cheerful classmate who willingly jumps into any activity, and becomes interested in Akari due to her mysterious air), who travel throughout Japan.
