Eight couples whose relationships have reached breaking point are whisked off to a tropical Mexican resort, where they will find out whether their current squeezes are really right for them. Expert-led behaviour workshops, challenges, and sex therapy sessions aim to give each participant a deeper understanding of themselves, and each other. However, on arriving at the resort, each couple's relationship is put "on a break", and they are forced to swap partners every 48 hours, meaning the temptation to play away might prove too much for some.
The basic structure of the program is that a number of farmers are presented with women from the city, from whom they choose one to be their spouse. The first edition premièred in the United Kingdom on ITV in 2001. However, the original format of the program is likely to date back to the TV program Bauer sucht Bäuerin, which was broadcast in 1983 on SF DRS in Switzerland.
The series revolves around a single bachelor (deemed eligible) and a pool of romantic interests, which could include a potential wife for the bachelor. The conflicts in the series, both internal and external, stem from the elimination-style format of the show. Early in the season, the bachelor goes on large group dates with the women, with the majority of women eliminated during rose ceremonies. As the season progresses, women are also eliminated on one-on-one dates and on elimination two-on-one dates. The process culminates with hometown visits to the families of the final few women, overnight dates, should they choose to accept, at exotic locations with the final three women, and interaction with the bachelor's family with the final two women. In many cases, the bachelor proposes to his final selection.

The show garnered both high ratings and positive feedback from viewers and critics, from its premiere telecast.

The Lucy Show is an American sitcom that aired on CBS from 1962–68. It was Lucille Ball's follow-up to I Love Lucy. A significant change in cast and premise for the 1965–66 season divides the program into two distinct eras; aside from Ball, only Gale Gordon, who joined the program for its second season, remained. For the first three seasons, Vivian Vance was the co-star.
