Hallo Mabuse

Hallo Mabuse captivates through its reduction, in which a conspiratorial narrative takes place, but even more so, the images themselves appear ambiguous, obscure, untrustworthy. A nod of the head, which seems treacherous in its mechanical repetition, meets the profile of a bearded man who does not appear to react at all in a suggested counter shot. The slight flickering of the image further intensifies the impression of an illicit agreement, of witnessing a crooked handshake. The ringing of the unseen telephone and the constant ticking of a clock lend the events a limited temporality. Something is running out, and in doing so, is also already reaching its end, a ghostly final act, which is anticipated by an explosion and breaks off with the sound of a falling guillotine.

Honky Tonky

All images were shot on 16mm film in the shadow of the Ryman Auditorium on Lower Broadway, a section of Nashville that has for decades attracted country music fans to its honky tonk bars. The visual effects were composed in-camera, while shooting on the street. This film was supported in part by the Tennessee Art Commission.

Moon Streams

The film builds up a surface tension that seems quite rocky and solid. This surface gradually begins to crumble and a bubbling of dusty gold begins, like a geyser, to break up this tension. The surface of paints and rhythms flows with the water and everything inside of the body of work spills out until electrical creative charges accompany the liquid gold and rock. Suddenly, out of this storm comes a red and yellow explosion of warmth and creativity, spilling out over the body like a lava flow.

Gauguin from the National Gallery, London

A highlight of the autumn Event Cinema calendar, this landmark cinema release opens with a brand-new 60-minute documentary about the life and work of Paul Gauguin narrated by actor Dominic West. This will be followed by a 30-minute private view filmed exclusively for cinemas of the forthcoming National Gallery exhibition ‘The Credit Suisse Exhibition: Gauguin Portraits’, just after it opens in London.

The Knight Is Young

June never leaves her apartment, which has a view of an advertising sign of a knight in shining armor. She is two weeks behind in her rent and believes that if she leaves the apartment, the landlord will never let her back in. The only way she gets food is when her friend, singer Earlayne Schools, brings it to her. One evening June sees Hal, a tap-dancing sign painter, painting over her knight. She explains her predicament, and he does his best to help her out.

The Boyg

I Am the Doorway

A sci-fi horror film based on the story by Stephen King. A first person POV perspective allows the audience to get inside the head of an astronaut trapped in a spaceship, as a strange virus grows inside him, altering his mind. To save himself he must take drastic action.

Mecha-ude

Hero was a high schooler living an ordinary life. One day, he meets a very strong and intelligent mechanical arm named "Mecha-ude". After a strange turn of events, the "Mecha-ude" started living inside Hero's hoodie and the two's life full of trouble begins. As the boy and his "Mecha-ude" fights together and strengthen their bonds, the two also meets new friends who also fights along with each of their own unique "Mecha-ude" partners. Out of those, one of the heroine has two "Mecha-ude" which appears out of her skirt. An active girl with a totally opposite characteristics from hero himself, he gradually becomes attracted to her. But the two are confronted with other "Mecha-ude" users who are in search of the secret of "Mecha-ude" relentlessly.

This short film visualizes potential human exploration of the Solar System through a sequence of digitally reconstructed environments based on real astronomical data and spacecraft imagery. Depicting locations such as Mars, the moons of Saturn and Jupiter, and other celestial bodies, it presents speculative human activity grounded in existing scientific ideas, accompanied by narration from Carl Sagan’s "Pale Blue Dot".

Mike's New Car

Heavy Traffic

A white dropout struggles to become a cartoonist and filmmaker, drawing inspiration from the harsh, gritty world around him. Still sharing his rundown apartment with his middle-aged parents, an oafish slob of an Italian father and a ditzy nutcase of a Jewish mother, he's ridiculed and looked down upon by his friends, hypocrites who run with violent gangs and the Italian Mafia, and a shallow Black girl who makes her living downtown with the pimps and pushers. The cartoonist gets a chance to pitch a film idea to a movie mogul, but the story proves too outrageous: a far-future Earth, depleted by war and pollution, where a mutant antihero challenges and kills God.
