Polypedates megacephalus, a small and inconspicuous tree frog, is now growing strong and ready to take over here and there in Taiwan. Over and over, scientists and volunteers try to remove them to protect our native frogs. At the same time, the loud mating calls of cane toads, the other massive invaders, are unfortunately heard in central Taiwan. An all-out ecological catastrophe seemed inevitable as they look so innocent that we could hardly imagine.
