The play is set in the second half of the 18th century during the reign of Catherine the Great. Count Alexey Orlov, who had once contributed to Catherine the Great’s rise to power, falls out of favor and is sent away in disgrace to lead the navy in Italy. While there, he meets a beautiful young woman named Elizabeth who has aspirations for the Russian crown. She claims to be the granddaughter of Peter the Great. In an attempt to win back Catherine's affection by uncovering Elizabeth's plans, Orlov begins an affair. However, what starts off as an innocent fling soon turns into something far more serious.

As pertinent now as then, OWEN WINGRAVE was composed by Benjamin Britten at the height of the Vietnam War. The opera poses the question: Is pacifism an act of cowardice? Or rather a desire to escape from the spiral of war and create world peace? To what extent do we determine our own futures? Should we let past events inform the decisions we make? Britten’s characters grapple with timeless issues in this gripping psychodrama.

AURORA - Live in Nidarosdomen

The Nidarosdomen in Trondheim is probably the most important church in Norway, the seat of the Norwegian metropolitans and bishops for almost 900 years and the coronation site of the Norwegian kings in historical times. In 2017, the exceptional 21-year-old Norwegian singer AURORA had the honor of giving a concert in the holy cathedral, also known as the "Heart of Norway". She performed in front of a sold-out audience together with her band and the TrondheimSolistene (ensemble/orchestra), Oslo Fagottkor (choir), Petra Bjørkhaug (organist) and Ruth Potter (harpist). This concert was recorded on November 2, 2017 and broadcast by NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation) shortly after Christmas on December 28, 2017. However, some songs that were originally played that evening were cut from the broadcast.

A benefit for Harrison's Material World Charitable Foundation, the all-star concert took place on the day of the first anniversary of his death.
